Fitbox Digital Marathon
This app helped 170,000+ athletes compete online, earn discounts, and find motivation.
How it started
Sberbank and VISA launched Fitbox to help their customers get fitter. My role was to lead the creative concept and design process.
Goal
Every year Sberbank organizes the Green Marathon. Our goal was to bring this competition into the digital world.
Research
I ran 10 in-depth interviews with a UX researcher, tested popular fitness trackers and running apps, and reviewed documentation from past Sberbank events. Three insights shaped the design:
Runners are achievers. Badges and levels matter. I added progress bars, achievements, and level indicators to the first screen.
Maps are noise. Runners know the route — they need distance, timing, and where their friends are. Dropping the map saved the team weeks of work.
Less is more. Instead of integrating every fitness tracker, we shipped with Google Fit and Apple Health only — faster and simpler for the first release.
Collaborative design
I led design alongside another designer, working closely with the UX team and developers throughout.
Character
I designed Fitty — a character who appeared across the app to communicate states like loading, no internet, and empty screens.

Digest
The Digest screen pushed beyond native patterns for a richer experience.
- A dropdown reveals detailed stats in a playful style, showing progress and the actions needed to reach the next level.
- The progress bar could transform into Fitty to cheer runners on or surface key messages.
- Special animations celebrated achievements.
Animations
Animated by a collaborating motion designer.
